One of the best things about living in the Bitterroot Valley is stepping out your front door and knowing that world-class trails are just a short drive away. Whether you’re a casual weekend hiker or the type who’s out before sunrise with trekking poles and a thermos, this area delivers.

Here are a few favorites worth putting on your list:

St. Mary’s Peak

St. Mary's Peak is about as iconic as it gets in the Bitterroot. The trail climbs steadily through forest and opens up into alpine meadows with sweeping 360-degree views of the valley. On a clear day you can see for miles in every direction — it’s the kind of hike that reminds you exactly why you moved here.

Kootenai Creek Trail

Kootenai Creek Trail is a gem for all skill levels. The trail follows a beautiful creek through old-growth forest with waterfalls along the way. It’s peaceful, well-maintained, and the kind of place you’ll want to bring out-of-town guests to impress them immediately.

Bass Creek Trail

Bass Creek Trail is another local favorite — easy access from the valley floor, gorgeous scenery, and a creek that runs fast and cold through most of the summer. It gets busy on weekends for good reason.

Blodgett Canyon

Blodgett Canyon is one of those places that stops you in your tracks. Sheer granite walls rise on both sides as you hike deeper into the canyon — it feels remote and dramatic even if you only go a few miles in.

Living at Elk Ridge puts all of this within easy reach. And when you’re done on the trail, you come home to your own mountain views, your own space, and your own piece of the valley.
